The primary aim of the Group is to collate records of mammals from the Bristol area for the Mammal Report published in the annual Proceedings of the Bristol Naturalists’ Society. All records are then passed to the Bristol Regional Environmental Records Centre for safekeeping.
The Group maintains ties with the Avon Wildlife Trust through the North Somerset Otter Group, the Bristol Avon Otter Group and the Avon Bat Group.
The group arranges occasional talks on mammals as part of the Bristol Naturalists’ Winter Lecture series as well as occasional guided walks in association with the Bat Group and the Wildlife Trust. In addition the Group undertakes occasional small mammal trapping surveys using Longworth live capture traps and Otter surveys on the North Somerset Levels.
